Budget adds to public sector pain

According to the Institute for Government, 53,000 civil servants have already gone – with a further squeeze to come after Wednesday’s Autumn Statement – and the cuts have left some departments in a “fragile” state...The civil service is shedding experience, shrinking and reforming itself while trying to manage wide-scale policy change.
