Department cut ‘too fast’

The Institute for Government carried out a detailed examination of how 17 departments had dealt with the deficit-driven imperative to cut 50,000 staff from the civil service in just 18 months. The cuts risked creating “a demoralised civil service, inadequate services and a dissatisfied public”, the report says.
