Elected mayor could have youth appeal

A national poll published by the Institute for Government (2012) revealed 92 per cent people could not name their council leader... A greater citizen focus is needed. Unlike council leaders, elected mayors do not depend on other councillors for their election so focus less on internal politics and more on the concerns of residents and businesses.
