The spending round looms

As the spending round looms, all eyes are on the Treasury. More than 150 council leaders from across the political spectrum co-signed a letter to the weekend newspapers to say that if local government faces further cuts, services will suffer.

The Institute for Government and the Institute for Fiscal Studies have warned of continued austerity and the impact of further public sector job losses. Across the public sector, departments are making their case to the Treasury for continued investment.
