UK forecast to remain in grip of austerity until 2020

The Chancellor has been challenged to admit that Britain will have to deal with austerity right through to 2020, with at least £33bn of cuts in the first three years of the next parliament.

The public must brace themselves for further welfare cuts, tax rises and an end to pensioner benefits after the general election, according to the Institute for Government and the Institute for Fiscal Studies.
