Westminster like a 90s oil firm, minister says

Working as a female minister in Westminster is like being in the boardroom of a 90s oil firm, Conservative MP Elizabeth Truss has said.

Conservative MP Elizabeth Truss told an Institute for Government audience that campaigners are overly obsessed with the number of women MPs at the expense of the political backroom. The Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Education and Childcare was joined at the IfG's first Women Leaders event on a panel chaired by Evening Standard columnist Rosamund Urwin. Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Employment relations, consumer and postal affairs, and Labour MP Stella Creasy, Shadow Minister for Competition and Consumer Affairs, also partipated in the discussion on women in politics and government.
