Professor Sir Mark Walport is the first Chief Executive of the newly formed UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

The creation of UKRI is a major change to how the UK funds research. Bringing together the seven research councils, Innovate UK and Research England, it will be responsible for £6 billion in public funding for research and innovation.

Sir Mark addressed the big questions UKRI faces, including how the UK can continue to be a world-leader in research and how to support the Government’s Industrial Strategy.

He was in conversation with Bronwen Maddox, Director of the Institute for Government.
